The whole monitoring thing is bullshit.
Blind activism that wants to put the blame on somebody.
There is no way in hell to monitor VTK, no part of our infrastructure is anywhere near the united states and international legislation doesn’t even work on much more pressing subjects than wierdo kids shooting somebody.
That he was a member of VF is of course a hook for journalists to make a story around, probably the admins of that site should employ a few people to go through journals instead of experimenting with new ways to gather money from their userbase, but like myspace or any other community site noone can force them and there will be zero impact, since bad press is press, too. Everyone in the goth community will ignore it as “´they always blame it on goth” but they all read the url somewhere. More people means more money, so why should they change something?
Aside from that, did it ever come to your mind that “probably” – and i do want to start a discussion here – so many freaks have a VF and whatnot accounts because noone on these websites will tell you to go fuck yourself and get a life or even show the slightest bit of astonishment when you whip around with guns and brag about killing everyone?
