vamp sites getting more and more uniform

Zitat von maestro am 19 Juli, 2004, 1712 Uhrwhen i picked the colours of this website i based it on the link colour and found other matching colours to go with - thus i created a design that was pretty unique...at least that's what i thought until yesterday when i made a net stroll again:
how comes that additional to sites like Darkness Embraced and a few others that had a violet touch before, other sites like GothVampUK, The Coven Organisation or about a hundred others pop up with similar looking designs now, too?
I mean hey, the colour violet has got nothing to do with vampirism so why does everyone go for the same look at the moment?besides of that you notice a strange similarity of features and content among them....are they all run by the same people? or are we on the way to one centralized über-vampire site that swallows all the others? 🙄 😉
discuss.

Zitat von larae am 19 Juli, 2004, 2237 UhrMaestro, lol.. you probably won't believe this, but you know what? I was just gripping about this very same thing. I was talking to Melissa (aquilus.net) about this yesterday. I told her I was thinking about purple, but then, she told me that alot of sites are doing purple as well. So, out of curiosity, I decided to check out a few of the sites out there.. and it's true. I have come across sites that have swiped my scroll colors, etc.. it's very disheartening.
When I first started Darkness Embraced back in 1999, it was a blue-blue.. then, over time, I seen people with the same exact colors.. so I changed it. Over the years, I have bounced around with different themes, but I always come back to bluish shades, it feels warm to me and inviting... and as you stated, obviously to everyone else as well.
I also realize that there is bound to be similar material on other sites, but lately, I have been finding people just ripping off my link descriptions left and right. Literal photo copies. At least name it something else. I don't know why anyone would want their site to look like the vampire site next door, but, for whatever reason they do. If they are doing it because they just want to follow our foot steps with constructing a site, I feel very flattered by that, but to literally mimic it makes me feel like I am somehow being cheated of my creativity. Hopefully, these other sites will grow tired of duplicating something already out there and make a change, if not, our visitors are going to start wondering why their monitors display nothing but blue and violet colors and think it's broken. 😉
I also just wanted to add that the Coven Organization has been using those colors for quite some time now, so I don't think they are guilty of jumping on the blue/violet band wagon, but as for others, yes, I have made the same observation.

Zitat von maestro am 20 Juli, 2004, 2146 Uhrhey Larae, welcome on VTK btw 😉
i wasn't sure about the Coven so i included them, i apologize.
of course there are some not avoidable factors that make websites look similar - sites using PHPnuke or Postnuke are bound to look familiar, some pages using software like the infamous Gossamer Threads directory ALWAYS look the same - but i think there is still enough room for creativity:
it should be part of the job you have as webmaster to make your site unique - there are some parts that just seem to belong to a site like ours and somewhere the list of different features a website can have ends too, but at least you should be able to throw it all into a different package so people know which site they're on at the moment - not just by the URL
the very least thing they could do is pick a new colour 😉
btw speaking of ripping off creativity:
if someone missed our old layout, it underwent a strange resurrection:
you only need to speak russian 😈

Zitat von belos am 24 Juli, 2004, 0007 UhrHey Larae 🙂
Nice to "see" you again hun 🙂
Last time I really looked around, it was a mix of purple (I admit to being a purple freak) or red.......I guess I need to surf more.
