Earlier this year Underworld, a vampire-Romeo-and-Juliet story, featured vampires as main characters – now they will become the hunted:

Hunted by Dr. van Helsing, one of the protagonists of Bram Stoker’s gothic novel “Dracula” and countless movies of the same type.
In this new movie “Van Helsing” , the 18th century vampyre slayer is sent to Romania to meet the one and only Count Dracula…

There isn’t much of the original “Dracula” plot left but it’s sure worth it’s money

I was really rather disappointed in this movie…. 🙁
I mean, I have always enjoyed the horror genre, but there was just a lil bit too much cheesiness in this film.

no, i didnt saw the film …. i only hear more bad than good things about it…

but something about underworld…..Why does Hollywood alway try to get a lovestory in such films….. its a horror film…. not a love story …. nothing about the vampirie romance part… but always…..

it does seem to be some kind of backup system, for those who dont like vampires they’ve got action and sfx, for those who dont like any of those they’ve at least got some romance left to rely on during the film.

in the eighties they made a lot of “aircraft movies” but only top gun got famous – they didnt only feature F-14s in that film but also some secondary romance plot – what made it easier for the girls who had to go into the movie with their bf’s to survive the macho-movie without getting bored.

similar thing with matrix, i’m surely not the only person in the world that considered the whole neo-trinity romance thing boring and off topic but against me stands the “awww”-factor in the female population.

Bleh, leave the romance crap out. I hate when they do that.
I was also mightly bored by the Neo/Trinity crapfest. (sorry, I get a lil fiesty)
Van Helsing REALLY annoyed me though and it wasn’t even the romance thing, although it was kinda cool that she bit it in the end, but the way Drac and his posse of females was portrayed really grated my last nerve.

it’s fascinating to see that when vampires play the good guys they’re always attractive, intelligent and charming – but if they play the bad guys they normally turn into dumb, shabby and abnormally hairy beast-like creatures right out of the Buffyverse…
