New Idea old topic
Zitat von navre am 20 Oktober, 2006, 1919 UhrOk so I realise that we came to a decision on the whole what is and is not artful nudity issue, but just like any meaningful sleazy silver tounged politian I think I may have come up with a way to circumvent said quandry. Browsing the galleries section as often as i do, I came to the realization that there are quite a few pic's in the members gallery. Now given that I am not around on what could be called a regualr basis, sometimes I can blame this on the job other times it is admittedly just lazyness. But how is it we can have so many members who post pictures but do not engange in conversation, or otherwise make their pressence known. Or as with all things on the net bear a temporary presence to the site and then move on with in days to something else that tickles their ADD, ADHD ( what ever bull shyt excuse doc's are comming up with to over medicate the masses with ) fancy at the time Here unto is the point. why not instead of comming to a consensis on what is or is not artful nudity, ( thou it was needed if it was not to be now I'm sure it would have come up in the fucture) mearly cull the "members Pic post, and gallery " sections removing all those who would sign up just to plaster their pictures on the site. this would not only save on browsing time but also I'm sure its in there some where but save on some kind of applicable memory space. Not to mention bring an accurate representation of those who really do frequent the site, and contribute to the community. yes wall flowers contribute to the community every body needs something to decorate their walls with that is pleasing to look at.
what do you think?

Zitat von maestro am 21 Oktober, 2006, 1101 UhrI'm totally annoyed by these pic posters and see no sense in loading up a picture to a website you'll never be online at. But i have to point out they still serve a purpose though:
If we only had pictures of those online who actually take part in any other VTK stuff, it'd be like 5 people. The reason why i'm reluctant to delete inactive members and pictures and all this stuff is that while they themselves don't do anything, they make new people sign up.
It was hard to get to 3000 members and a halfway active forum, but today we get ten times the traffic and people as when we used to have fewer members. The site appears bigger and big is always attracting - check myspace or vampirefreaks, however shit they are they get a shitload of people because they have a shitload of people, that's how this stuff works.
We could purge all forum topics that are not used in a given time, but it'd make only 100 instead of 5000 forum posts for people to read, even if they're only lurking. Everything a member posts is content, content is what counts to get new members. I totally feel like you about the people who post something and vanish, but from a "marketing" point of view it's better to have 90% inactive members of 3000 than 10 active members "only".

Zitat von maestro am 22 Oktober, 2006, 0919 UhrIt's a very valid suggestion and the internet would be a better place if things would run this way dude.
Take the chatrooms for example - people join, look around, see nobody is there and leave again. Back from the times i had a chatroom on IRC (and VTK only to advertise for it) i know that they do this in intervals of a few minutes: One joins, sees nothing, goes away - 5 mins later someone else joins, sees noone (cause the first already quitted) and goes away.
It annoyed the hell out of me. Noone of them waited till someone else would join but all would go "oh, fuck this" and leave, even if it would have taken 5 minutes only.So while you'd think fresh quality content would be preferred, i'm not sure if it is the case.

Zitat von necromancerza am 25 Oktober, 2006, 1426 UhrI recall suggesting something similiar once and got pretty much the same responce.
We need some killer content guys. I know I have not brought much in that catagory lately, but I am getting into a spiral where I visit the same sites .. see the same things. Our active members are great and participate alot. I`ll hunt for some new content on the weekend and come up with some origional idea`s.
BTW Maestro .. is our countdown timer operational?

Zitat von maestro am 25 Oktober, 2006, 1741 UhrNew content is the way to everything. Actually the users should be the ones generating it but noone posts any articles and stuff so i'll make something up as soon as i'm settled into my new uni subject. The members we have do great work, shame that you can forget about all the inactives
The countdown thing is not built into the site yet but you can use this one for example. Even in a frame for a post, it just might look crappy
