Capitol Hill Arts Center presents
A celebration of the new original performance piece by CHAC’s Artist-in-Residency PURE Cirkus
a dark and twisted retelling of Lewis Caroll’s classic book
To kick-off their Artist-in-Residency at the Capitol Hill Arts Center, PURE Cirkus is working with the Capitol Hill Arts Center to develop a one-of-a-kind retelling of Lewis Caroll’s Alice In Wonderland. With original music and striking costumes they explore this dark and twisted story in a way that can only be told by a post modern cirkus.

To celebrate this collaboration, PURE Cirkus teases audiences with their first public performance in Seattle of this original piece currently titled “Wonderlandâ€. On September 9th and 10th you are invited to experience excerpts from “Wonderland†and revel in its original music with performances by Osiris Indriya, Amphetamine Virus and the PURE Cirkus Carnie Band. Part party, part theatre; these groups are here to give you a sneak peak into the possibilities for a new performance style that blends traditional forms of theatrical narrative, dance parties and cirque into a new and exciting language of “performance circus.â€
“PURE Cirkus takes the majestic beauty of Cirque du Soleil into the freakish realms of Jim Rose Circus and breaks the looking-glass with their bare hands,†says yvette Soler, Chief Executive Officer of Infinite Connections. “This is the story Lewis Carroll would never dream of telling to his daughters.â€
PURE Cirkus’ “Wonderland†will merge elements of street performance, theatre, circus, opera, body modification and fire dancing with original tribal industrial music to tell the story of a little girl lost in a world of her own making. Their performances are hallmarked by stunning costumes, demented “klownsâ€, and jaw dropping acts of bravery revealing the human body in its “Purest†form.

PURE Cirkus (WA) started out as a Seattle based piercing/suspension group called P.U.R.E. (people undergoing real experiences). Over the course of 3 years the group grew larger and larger as it began to perform shows both public and private, pulling together many talented performers who strived to push the limits of the human mind and body in an ancient art form that dates back to the oldest mummy found to date until it finally evolved into what is now PURE CIRKUS. As P.U.R.E entered into its 3rd year performing all over Seattle it spawned its own fire troupe, run by Xavier Frost and Jennifer Morgensen. Soon enough it began to take on all forms of entertainers such as jugglers, clowns and other creeds of artists that simply wanted to place that they could entertain and grow as a performer. So began Pure Cirkus. The group that began as a private get together of friends to create an inspiring personal experience born out of our primordial society has transformed into Pure Cirkus. A blend of clowns, fire, suspension/piercing, dancers, acrobats, musicians and artists from all over that have come together to build what we hope will be a long lasting cirkus that will come to entertain people for generations. http://www.purecirkus.com/

Osiris Indriya (Iboga Records/IOSIS Art Party/Oracle Gatherings) is a legend of the West Coast Underground Dance scene. His extraordinary talent has allowed him to play in a wide range of settings including the Club Scene, House Music Events, Trance Parties and Workshops. Driven to take Seattle to the next level, Osiris has been deep into creating several projects. He has teamed up with Infinite Connections to bring the best of Europe’s tribal progressive trance music and world class art to the Pacific Northwest in a series of events called IOSIS Art Parties. As co-founder of the Oracle Gatherings, he is bringing a new paradigm in a growing dance community by integrating with the Northwest’s mythical undercurrent. His collection of sounds expands many genres blurring the lines between Progressive, Techno, House, Breaks and Trance with Tribal Rhythms while his original compositions mix elements of space into the places between genres. All this has helped inspire the release of his all original progressive and downtempo CD, “Reach Within”. Amidst all the projects, being a DJ and producing original music and art combined with his spiritual studies continue to be Osiris’ focus. http://www.osirisindriya.com
Amphetamine Virus (Pain Vendor Productions/Shibitu Sounds Recordings) has been work in progress since 1999. He has played in several industrial bands until he got bored with it and decided to try something a little different. There’s not much too tell. He’s just out to create the type of music that he would go out and listen to, no deep psychological reasons. Side projects: Black Pill Book Divemuffin various live/improv.
