Turns out Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan is sued by Batman over unauthorized use of the name
Not that the caped avenger would have any grudge against him for his flattering portrayal in the last movie of the franchise – it’s the turkish town of Batman that’s doing all the sueing here: Rising crime rates and female suicide levels shall not be the only thing bringing the town on the map of social recognition, the worst judicial case in history is doing the trick pretty finely.
“The royalty of the name ‘Batman’ belongs to us … There is only one Batman in the world. The American producers used the name of our city without informing us,†[Mayor of Batman city, Hüseyin] Kalkan told the Doğan news agency… Mayor Kalkan, speaking to the Hürriyet Daily News and the Economic Review, said last year foreign media picked up on Batman and the city’s increasing suicide rates among women. He said a columnist asked why Batman’s mayor did not sue the movie Batman for royalties while struggling with economic problems. “We found this criticism right and started to look for legal possibilities of a case like that,†he said.
So a Warner Bros. (money) movie adapted from a 1939 DC Comics (money) franchise’s director (no money) is beeing sued by a district gaining it’s status and name in 1957.
Holy Fail, Batman!
