CoRE (Constructs of Ritual Evolution – CA/TX) It is our intent to create original and physically demanding works of theatre by blending the practice of modern performance art with ancient rituals of body suspension. We in CoRE have suspended our own concept of physical limitation, pierced the heart of our fears, and transcended the boundaries of social convention in order to further the understanding of the corporeal and spiritual being. Suspension acts combined with traditional performance art and theatre provide us with a new outlet for artistic expression that enables the audience to join us on our emotional journey. By pushing our own boundaries in life and art, we inspire others to explore their own. http://www.wearecore.com
CELEBRATING THEIR ANNIVERSARY
Pure Cirkus was born on Oct 27th 2003 as a Seattle-based body art theatre group called P.U.R.E. (People Undergoing Real Experiences). For two years the group performed only within the small community of body modification and suspension, keeping to nightclubs and private events. Over the course of three years several members of the group began to delve into more traditional Cirkus acts such as fire performance and juggling to expand and broaden its audience. In the summer of 2005, as they began combining both cirkus talents and body modification, the group realized that they had something far larger then they had ever imagined. On Oct 28th 2005, almost overnight, the group called P.U.R.E was transformed into Pure Cirkus. By pulling together talented performers from all over the country they push the limits of the human mind and body by combining Cirkus performance with Tribal theatre. They have embraced all forms of entertainers such as jugglers, clowns, sideshow freaks, fire, suspension and piercing enthusiasts, dancers, acrobats, aerialists, musicians and other circus and cabaret artists that have come together to build what will be a lasting circus that will entertain people for generations. http://www.purecirkus.com
Shift (Oregon) Born out of the need to depart from the standard mode of pain threshold performance, Shift began as a move to the bare minimum of public spectacle: a performer and his or her exercise. These exercises were tailor-made to push the physical and emotional capacities of the performers to their literal breaking points; hence…at the moment of triumph, a literal shift or actualization of the collective Body, Mind, and Soul of the performance/audience became manifest. We exist under the premise that stimulus + perception = reality. We seek to capture that elusive ethereal tangent known as vulnerability through the device of pain threshold Xploration and Xperimentation, we are the edge…. we are shift.

Betty X Considering herself first and foremost a conceptual artist and performer rather than a singer, Betty X’s sardonic wit and unapologetic temperament is mirrored in both her music and her powerful (and often theatrical) stage performances. Her music has been described as everything from enigmatic and surreal, to aggressive, nihilistic, and brooding — as well as sarcastic and snide. The lyrical content, mostly cleverly disguised social commentary, is metaphoric and often tongue-in-cheek. With a degree in fine art, Betty got her start in music when she formed the sleazy and provocative art rock band, Salon Betty, in the late-90’s. After several independent releases, the group disbanded and she decided to make her solo debut with the electro-industrial EP release Bad Side of Love in 1999, which was a dramatic departure from the campy and raucous lo-fi sound of Salon Betty. In 2004, she released a follow-up EP, Dystopia — a violent industrial-metal soundtrack to a living nightmare. Shortly thereafter, she was approached by independent filmmaker Craig Kovach to have several of her songs featured on the soundtrack to his latest horror film, Unearthed, featuring Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead, From Dusk Til Dawn). During this time she also began working with Martin Atkins (Pigface, Ministry, PIL), providing guest vocals on several side projects, including Pigface and Sheep On Drugs. Currently, Betty X is finishing up her third solo release, Memoirs of a Pain Junkie. The new release promises to be heavier and more abrasive than anything previously released. http://www.bettyx.com
Mankind Is Obsolete, also known as “MKIO,” is a female-fronted industrial rock band based in Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in fall 2002 by founding members Jon Siren (drums) and Natasha Cox (vocals). Jon had recently relocated to L.A. from Columbus, Ohio to join the legendary So Cal industrial group Hate Dept., while Natasha had moved from a small town in Texas to pursue a heavier style of music than the classical piano her parents had encouraged for most of her life. By early 2003, MKIO’s groundwork had been laid, and Jon and Natasha recruited Mark Nurre (guitar), Brian DiDomenico (keyboards), and Gordon Bash (bass) to complete the group. Mankind is Obsolete’s musical approach has been to stretch across a large spectrum of sound and dynamics within a rock context. Melodic and passionate, the music blends driving rhythms and expressive, rich vocals to create songs that are introspective, biographical and express observations of the world around. MKIO strives to create their music with conviction, intensity and ultimately to connect with their listeners. MKIO released their debut 6-song “Metamorph†EP in August 2003. The EP has proven itself to be as popular overseas as it is in the United States, as online buyers have purchased it and sent positive feedback to the group. Mankind is Obsolete produced a video for “The Rapture,” a song off of the EP and is working on a new video for “Still Right Here,” from the new album, “Rise,” released June 2005. MKIO has performed with many notable artists, including: KMFDM, Collide, Pigface, Free Dominguez, Genitorturers, and Beautiful Creatures. The group also performed at the 2005 Gothstock Festival in Connecticut, which featured the Genitorturers, Combichrist and Cruxshadows. http://www.mkio.com

A.S. Koi – The techniques you see in my gallery were learned outside of institutional walls and time, by practice and by vision and by trial and error. As for the forms, each “creature”, each “landscape”, is a little more than it appears. If you feel more comfortable calling them “monsters” and leaving it at that, fine, but that’s not what I’m thinking of or seeing when I’m painting. In reality, each piece has more than one theme, more than one aspect, many tiny details which make up the whole, much like a human being, or a well-crafted story. If all you can see are “monsters”, you’re not taking enough time to take them in, or you simply haven’t learned to read. They aren’t stories for the timid, of course, but they aren’t all horror stories either. Each piece exists at its own intersection of the twisting, branchy paths of Science, Mythology, Philosophy, and Psychology. Each piece is a door, a mirror, a pristene pool waiting for a curious explorer to call out its secrets. http://www.moritorium.com
Jason Soles – A self-taught sculptor, Jason Soles began his artistic pursuits as a method of exploring himself, casting emotion into tactile artifacts. In spite, or because of, the pain of those early endeavors, Soles discovered an inescapable drive to create. His works are drawn in equal parts from his subconscious and imagination, thanks to an essential working relationship with his inner demons. http://www.moritorium.com
